Meet the Families
Michael Fitch
Second-generation owner, Michael Fitch has been with the company more than 40 years. Day-to-day, he focuses on services, industrial refrigeration projects, and building automation systems. Michael’s father, Don, started the business in 1957, and Michael is proud that the founders’ sons are now part of the third generation of owners. Being family-owned and managed is crucial to the company’s success, as well as retaining great long-term employees.
In his spare time, Michael spends time with family and at the cabin. He enjoys fishing and hunting.

Mark Fitch
In addition to managing relationships with both independent and corporate clients, Mark oversees service operations for the divisions and territories covered by SCR. He started with the company in May 2005. Driving the oldest van in the fleet, Mark worked as a service technician for about seven years before moving into the office full-time.
Because his grandfather started the company in 1957, Mark grew up in and around the SCR family and always knew he wanted to have a place in it. Riding in a service van with his father at a young age instilled in Mark a true passion for the work, to the point that he couldn’t imagine being a part of any other industry.
Mark most enjoys building community connections and working alongside great people. He is also fond of tackling challenges head-on, finding customers’ pain points and finding solutions to resolve them. To further cement client relationships, SCR recently launched its in-house training program to help employees continue to deliver the quality service customers have come to expect.
When he’s not working, Mark can be found cheering on the Minnesota Timberwolves as a season ticketholder, doing yardwork and other projects around the house, and hunting pheasants and deer.

Scott Fitch
As one of SCR’s three owners/partners, Scott is involved in all aspects of the company. His primary focus is on operations for SCR’s construction and service departments as well as the SCR-Northern branch.
After graduating in 2001 from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, Scott began working full-time at SCR, immediately making use of his Bachelor of Science degree in HVAC/R Engineering Technology and Energy Management. He worked as an HVAC/R service tech for 10 years before moving into an office role, which eventually led to management and ownership.
Scott’s grandfather Don started SCR in 1957, implementing the same core values that drive the business today. Don then sold the company to Scott’s father and a business partner in the mid-80s. Having grown up in and around the business, Scott became fascinated by the trade. He still maintains a hands-on passion for solving problems and continues to find ways to make operations more efficient.
When he’s not working, Scott likes to spend time with his wife and three children, exploring and enjoying the great outdoors.

Ryan Welty
From early on, Ryan knew he wanted to be a part of and help carry on the SCR family legacy. He started in 2011 as a full-time shop and warehouse worker before moving to service dispatch and then, over several years, helmed various sales and project management roles.
Ultimately, Ryan landed in sales management, which is where he’s been since 2022. His focus is on the company’s external relationships, including customer and vendor connections as well as marketing efforts. He also helps spearhead SCR’s long-term strategy while working with the finance team on reports, statements, and the company’s overall performance.
What Ryan enjoys most about his job are the people he works with, from co-workers to customers to vendors. He’s also enthusiastic about the ways in which SCR continues to be forward thinking in terms of embracing new technologies and finding ways to improve as a company.
Outside the office, Ryan enjoys spending time with his active family on outdoor adventures that include skiing, biking, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Pat Welty
Pat started with the company as our first salesman and estimator in 1977 and became a part owner in 1985. Since then, he’s been involved in the sheet metal fabrication side of the business, overseeing HVAC and refrigeration construction and business development. Pat, who now carries multiple municipal licenses, watched the refrigeration trade evolve from its simplest form. As a child, he lived on a resort in northern Minnesota. One of his jobs was to take care of customers’ fish in the ice house, which was filled with ice blocks cut from the lake and insulated with sawdust.
Pat enjoys spending time with his six grandchildren, hunting, fishing, golfing, and anything outdoors.
